Amérique du Sud

Amérique du Sud, or South America, is a continent located in the Western Hemisphere, mainly in the Southern Hemisphere, and bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. It is the fourth largest continent in terms of area and the fifth largest in population. South America is known for its diverse geography, which includes the Andes Mountain range, the Amazon rainforest, and numerous rivers, such as the Amazon River, one of the largest rivers in the world by discharge volume. The continent is composed of 12 sovereign countries, including Brazil, Argentina, and Chile, as well as several territories. Culturally, South America is rich and varied, influenced by indigenous peoples, European colonization, and more recent immigration patterns. The continent is characterized by a range of languages, with Spanish and Portuguese being the most widely spoken. South America is also known for its biodiversity and significant natural resources, as well as being a major player in global agriculture and mining.
