Corée du Nord, or North Korea, is a country located in East Asia, constituting the northern part of the Korean Peninsula. It is officially known as the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). The country is bordered by China to the north, Russia to the northeast, and South Korea to the south, with the Yellow Sea to the west and the Sea of Japan to the east. North Korea is a single-party state governed by the Worker’s Party of Korea, with a centralized economy and strict state control over various aspects of life, including politics, society, and the media. The capital and largest city of North Korea is Pyongyang. North Korea’s political system is characterized by a cult of personality surrounding its leaders, particularly Kim Il-sung, Kim Jong-il, and the current leader, Kim Jong-un. The country is often noted for its militarization, human rights issues, and tense relations with the international community, particularly regarding its nuclear weapons program and security policies.
