Europe de l’Est

“Europe de l’Est,” or Eastern Europe, refers to a geographical and cultural region of Europe that typically includes countries situated to the east of Germany and Austria. This region generally encompasses nations such as Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, the Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania), as well as parts of the former Soviet Union, including Ukraine, Belarus, and the Russian Federation.

Eastern Europe is characterized by its diverse cultural, historical, and linguistic backgrounds, influenced by various empires and states throughout history, including the Byzantine Empire, the Ottoman Empire, and the Soviet Union. The term can also carry political and economic connotations, especially in the context of the Cold War and the transition to market economies following the collapse of communism in the late 20th century.

While the boundaries of Eastern Europe may vary based on different criteria, including cultural, historical, and political perspectives, the term generally signifies a distinct region within Europe, marked by its unique identity and experiences.
