Conflit armé

“Conflit armé” is the French term for “armed conflict.” It refers to a situation where organized armed groups engage in sustained fighting, often with the use of weapons. This term encompasses various forms of violence, including wars between nations, civil wars within countries, and conflicts involving various non-state actors. Armed conflicts can be characterized by the intensity of violence, the parties involved, and the political, social, or economic motivations behind the fighting. They often result in significant humanitarian consequences, including loss of life, displacement of populations, and destruction of infrastructure. The classification of armed conflict can be further divided into international armed conflicts, which occur between states, and non-international armed conflicts, which take place within a single state and involve governmental forces and non-state armed groups. The term is commonly used in legal contexts, particularly in relation to international humanitarian law, which seeks to regulate the conduct of armed conflicts and protect those who are not participating in hostilities.
