Désinformation

Désinformation, or disinformation in English, refers to the deliberate dissemination of false or misleading information with the intent to deceive. This can involve the manipulation or fabrication of facts, statistics, or narratives to influence public opinion, obscure the truth, or promote a specific agenda. Disinformation is often used in political contexts, propaganda campaigns, and conflict situations to shape perceptions or behaviors. Unlike mere misinformation, which may be accidental, disinformation is characterized by its intentionality and strategic purpose. It can spread through various mediums, including social media, traditional media, and interpersonal communication, often exploiting emotional appeals and cognitive biases to gain traction among audiences.
