Rhode Island

Rhode Island is the smallest state in the United States by area, located in the New England region. It is bordered by Massachusetts to the north and east, Connecticut to the west, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. Officially known as the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, it was one of the original thirteen colonies and is known for its maritime history, coastal towns, and sandy shores. The capital of Rhode Island is Providence, which is also the largest city in the state. Rhode Island is known for its significant contributions to American history, including early advocacy for religious freedom and its role in the Industrial Revolution. The state’s name comes from the Greek Island of Rhodes, with the “Island” part reflecting its many waterways and coastal features, although it is primarily connected to the mainland.
